Tactile paving was originally invented in 1965 in Japan by Seiichi Miyake to orientate people with vision impairment of any danger, altering changes in path, ramps, platforms, and stairways. Today, the importance of contrasting colours also assists people who are not completely vision impaired. UBW has worked on various Sydney Train station projects replacing the tactiles to platforms to comply with BCA (Building Code of Australia) and ASA (Asset Standard Authority) standards. Works were carried out at (but not limited to) St James Railway Station and St Mary’s Railway Station.
