Works within a heritage-listed gaol complex.
The National Art School occupies the former Darlinghurst Gaol, Sydney’s oldest surviving gaol complex, which received a NSW heritage listing in 2021. UBW was engaged to upgrade the façade of Building 24 and refurbish Building 28 on the working campus.
Two buildings, two scopes of work.
On Building 24, UBW delivered the façade upgrade over 55 weeks, covering roof repairs, replacement of window hardware, repairs to corroded metal and timber doors and windows, and interior and exterior painting. On Building 28, a 9 week refurbishment included new suspended ceilings, a resurfaced concrete floor, and internal fixed window openings that expose the existing tunnel, which was lit to illuminate the space.
